Bites or hives??

I woke up on Thursday with 2 itchy red bumps on one of my legs and another 2 have appeared this evening on each of my thighs.
What do you think they could be? It’s freaking me out thinking something is biting me

Bites. I would expect more irregular shaped welts if hives.

Have you taken antihistamine and used a cream like hydrocortisone too?

Cherryblossom99 · 10/05/2025 21:11

I haven’t tried those yet but will give it a go. Do they look like bedbug bites? That’s what I’m most worried about

They are bites. Do you have pets?

No, don’t have any pets

I don't think so. I thunk you'd have more if it was bed bugs.

Cherryblossom99 · 10/05/2025 21:15

I’ve tried looking at pictures on Google to try and identify the insect but can’t find any that look similar

Just normal mosquito or midge bites. You can get them if you've been outdoors anywhere at this time of year.

CatsorDogsrule · 10/05/2025 21:20

I think mosquito bites, especially if you go outside in the evening with bare legs or have windows open at night?

Cherryblossom99 · 10/05/2025 21:21

Thanks, I have been outside a fair bit more than usual in the last few days with the warmer weather so it probably is that.
I panicked as I noticed them the other morning when I woke up and instantly thought bedbugs (even checked my mattress 🙈)

They look kind of worse this evening. No more have appeared. I know most people thought mosquitoes/midges but they are only on my legs. Is there anyway they look like flea or bedbug bites? Thanks, I know I probably should overly anxious

You simply seem to be reacting quite normally to them. Did you use any treatment? You could try consulting a pharmacy but it looks like pretty mild mosquito bites to me.

I haven’t put anything on them yet, going to try and get some hydrocortisone cream today.
Would it be typical for mosquitoes to only bite my legs? My arms and things have been exposed too, but no bites

Very typical; my legs always get the most bites. I imagine they know they are least likely to be seen and killed by the victim there.

thearchers · 12/05/2025 14:25

Bedbug bites usually come in threes, they stay in one position and bite three times around the area, breakfast lunch and dinner! Yours seem more random and look very much like mosquito bites to me, some antishan cream or covered ice pack will help.

LoafofSellotape · 12/05/2025 14:27

Just look like normal midgey bites, whack some cream in them and take an antihistamine, nothing to worry about.
