Second Stomach Bug in 8 Weeks

LuckysDadsHat · 09/05/2025 02:03

I am currently suffering through my second stomach bug in 8 weeks. Before this I have not had one for years and years and now I am on day 3 of another one.

I thought I had stopped vomiting yesterday, until just now I rushed off to the loo, and vomited at the same time all over the floor.

Has anyone get any suggestions on how to get this one to stop ASAP! I am taking rehydration sachets, drinking isotonic drinks and taking paracetamol for the temperature (38.6) that I have.

Oh noooo! My sympathies, one is bad enough, and having to clean up when so ill, is horrible. See how you go today, if you’re still vomiting throughout the day it might be worth a phone consult with Gp if you can get one, given you’re on day 3. Could this one be food poisoning at all? Can last longer than the usual 24hr type things. The fever makes me wonder if more to it as I don’t usually get one with a typical stomach bug?

I hadn't thought of food poisoning! I suppose it could be.

I have now got blood in the diarrhea so that's another joyous symptom to add to the list. I think i may have to call the GP when they open.

Bloody diarrhea is usually food poisoning. I'd ring GP today OP, they can prescribe an anti sickness medication too.

Jollyjoy · 09/05/2025 10:42

Oh yes get the blood checked out. Poor you, it’s just awful having vomiting. Hope you are better soon.

I am waiting for the GP to call me back for a phone consultation. I am still having constant diarrhoea, the cramps that I have with it are some of the worst pains I have ever had! No more vomiting gladly, but clearing up the floor at 2am was also something I could have done without.

Friend who is a a&e nurse said ut sounded like ecoli to her, but the GP will most likely ask for a stool sample. Unfortunately there is no treatment for ecoli other than riding it out.

Oh and my god (TMI) the sudocream is out in force! My bumhole is absolutely burning constantly and that is also bleeding! But you can tell the difference between that and the blood in the diarrhoea.

GP concurs with nurse friend and have to do a sample first thing Monday morning. They have prescribed some buscopan for the cramps and told me to take cocodamol to help slow the transit down so to speak. But nothing they can do unless I get worse and then it will be hospitalisation (which i really don't want as I have a massive phobia of hospitals). Fingers crossed it all settles soon.

Oh bless you that sounds awful. What is the estimated recovery time with ecoli? Keep going with the rehydration sachets and plenty of fluids and just rest as much as you can.

GP said 7-10 days to be over it fully but she hopes by Monday it may be all over. I really hope so, as I don't think I have ever been as tired as I am now.

I just wanted to update after test results have come back. I have Campylobacter. Confirmed by the sample and been sent antibiotics to take. I am a lot better than I was, but it has been an horrific bug. Wouldn't wish this on anyone. Still having the shits but nowhere near as much as I was.

Poor thing.
Any idea of the cause.?

JoyousEagle · 16/05/2025 21:22

Oh how hideous. A friend of mine ended up in hospital on IV fluids with that. Hopefully you’ll be fully better soon!

I think it may have been a chicken salad sandwich from a Tesco meal deal or a chicken Kiev that I had the night before the sandwich. Not 100% certain though snd could never prove any of it. No one else in the family have got it, and we eat all the same food bar the sandwich that I had at work.

Just seen your update, sorry you went through that, how grim. Glad you’re on the mend.

LuckysDadsHat · 23/05/2025 14:38

I have finally got a normal stomach! Yayyyyyyy. It's taken 2.5 weeks to finally shift the campylobacter. I am now turning a bit obsessive with hand washing as I never want to go through this again, which is weird as its food poisoning, not really caused by not washing hands, but it has made me so paranoid.

I also have a big public health form to fill in sigh.
