Odd swallowing?

Firstly I know mumsnet is not the place for this and I don’t expect medical advice - I have been to the doctors but they are very disinterested and I would just be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this. So a few months ago I noticed that on occasions when I came to swallow (mostly saliva) it’s almost like I couldn’t finish the action, I started to swallow then it was like my throat muscles froze and I couldn’t get it down my throat. That was usually when I was concentrating on my swallow. This then happened randomly last week with soup, which scared me a little as it had never happened with food. No other symptoms whatsoever, generally healthy but it’s just… odd. Anyone had anything similar?!

Yes ! This started happening to me years and years ago and I actually thought maybe it was a nervous thing or I was rushing but it got worse and worse I was choking on food/drinks constantly ! I went to the doctor and was referred for an urgent endoscopy…. I was up to high doh thinking of worst case scenarios…. Anyway I had the endoscopy (without sedation, it was uncomfortable but manageble and over in less than 5 mins) turns out I have a hiatus hernia. I now take omeprazole daily and have gaviscon too ! I

Oh wow! Thank you for that. Did it get worse over a few months? Did you have any other symptoms?

It got worse over years. Genuinely at first I used to notice it especially on my lunch at work so I thought it was just from rushing or being around others but it got worse and worse especially after I had my first wee boy I had HG which might have worsened things then eventually I went to the doctors as I would choke when eating it’s like the food is stuck at my chest and I can’t get it down can’t even get water down then eventually it eases or relaxes inside and I feel it slide down. It’s horrible but the omeprazole has helped. A lot of ppl with this suffer with reflux. I personally haven’t for me it’s just the choking !
