High platelets and white blood cells

Hello,
I’m looking for personal experiences of high platelets and high white blood count if any has experienced this? I’m awaiting a re-test before a possible referral. My last blood test showed platelets at 740 and WBC 20.4- there were also some other possible worrying aspects too. The GP mentioned possible blood cancer as a possibility, but wasn’t overly worried. I just wondered if anyone had similar numbers and then was okay? Many thanks!

Hi, I had high platelets last year and have had high white blood cells a few times n the past. My GP didn't seem too worried and put it down to a recent infection, I'd had a chest infection, my understanding is infections can raise both. It's good to get it checked out but I'd try not to worry

My dad had high platelets for a few months, around 600ish and has been diagnosed with thrombocytosis which is a blood cancer, although not one that spreads and life expectancy is normal. He has to take a low dose chemo tablet for life now but is otherwise fine, if a little more tired than normal. I’m not sure if he had high white blood cells too or if it was just platelets. Both being high would probably point to some sort of infection, but your GP should monitor monthly and if still high after 6 months you should be referred to a Haematologist I believe.
