Pain in left ribs

Hi , I’ve got to see my Dr next Tuesday as I’m worried about a pain in my left ribs it’s really getting me down
It started in Feb , one night I had terrible pain down my left side flank that radiated into my breast , the pain went but my Dr examined me & prescribed Omeprazole to be taken for a month I was tested for Pylori which was negative

Tbh the pain didn’t return so I didn’t take the tablets , however for the last week I’ve been getting a horrible pain in my ribs , a hot water bottle and gaviscon eases it , the pain comes and goes .
I can’t say if it’s related to the first original pain in my flank . Has any body else had this I know it could be anything .

Have you started taking the omeprazole yet? I’ve had side, gastric, back, chest pains of varied kinds over the last year or so, I’ve had an endoscopy and tested negative for h pylori too. My symptoms (also some digestion issues) come and go which is a bit frustrating but I’m under a see on symptoms pathway with a consultant so if it gets worse i can go back to see him. In the meantime he’s told me to take omeprazole regularly, I used to take it when I felt uncomfortable but he stresses that it’s useful as a regular medication. He’s also suggested I look at gut health and recommend vsl probiotics, they’re expensive but I’ve started a months trial to see if they help.

Thankyou for your reply, I didn’t start the Omeprazole as I’m scared , two of my friends have been on them & once they stopped suffered with their guts . I know it sounds ridiculous but I don’t want to be on these long term but I’d like to find out what’s causing the pain .
My diet isn’t the best so I need to change it .
Ive been really worried as the pain can be so intense
May I ask which probiotics you take please?

I get the trepidation of going on them,I’m quite anxious by nature but I’ve rationalised that managing coming off something after the issue is resolved might be easier than soldiering on.

The consultant recommended VSL3. I’m not one for supplements (I feel as though I’m being sold magic beans!) but he’s an NHS consultant so there’s no hidden agenda.

Stomach pain is always hard to find the cause of as there are so many possibilities, as in could it be something muscular or a nerve type issue. A friend of mine had presumed she had ibs for years and self medicated but it turned out after eventually seeing a PT about back pain that it was a hip condition/muscle issue causing what she thought were ibs symptoms.
