One leg swelling up

I’ve had an issue with my right leg swelling on and off since Oct. It started with one ankle and calf becoming noticeably larger and tighter than the other back in October. I was tested for blood clots but it wasn’t that. The doctor seemed a bit stumped and just said it wasn’t probably tendonitis,
it went away after a week or two but has now returned with the hot weather. The other leg is completely fine.
For context I’m 44, around a stone
overweight and spend most of my day on my feet. Should I be worried or is it just one of those things?

I’d go back. I know appointments are hard to get, but you need an answer.

@IndieRocknRoll I had something similar to this some years ago. No reason for the swelling, no injury, went to the local walk-in centre (at a weekend, GP closed) and was roundly told off by the nurse who shamed me for daring to bother them with it. Went to the GP subsequently who was baffled and seemed completely unworried. Just one ankle and foot blew up, not my calf, though it persisted for weeks and I couldn’t get my normal shoe on. I gave up because no medical professional seemed interested, and it went away - kind of - but then that ankle kept swelling intermittently and, like yours, would always swell in hot weather. It settled into being just a tiny bit more swollen than the other one, permanently.

Fast forward to years later and another doctor for an unrelated thing noticed it and mentioned the word lymphoedema. I ended up being diagnosed with it. The specialist I saw was a bit exasperated that no-one had ever mentioned DVT to me when the initial swelling happened……but it might not have been that; it can be caused by a tiny infection from a scratch, or any number of things.

Anyway, just to say - that’s definitely one thing to think of with this kind of swelling. It can be in one limb. It can be mild. But it’s worth trying to explore because lymphoedema can progress and needs management. Mine hasn’t got any worse, thankfully, but I now wear specialist compression stockings daily to ensure it won’t.

Do you take HRT? The first type of progesterone they put me on did this to one of my legs. Fine since I switched.
