What's wrong with dd?

Dd is 14 and has been struggling with health for a couple of years. Main symptoms are periods of feeling really tired and nauseous. Can last for a few days and seems to be every couple of weeks. School attendance is awful - she might go off midweek then will often take til weekend to get over it.

Blood tests showed lowish ferritin - she's been taking ferrous fumerate.

Abdo scan, H Pylori and coeliac all normal.

Tried the combined pill as think there's a correlation with worst times being week before period - didn't make huge difference and made her feel anxious which led to more nausea.

No joint pains or other issues that I think may indicate auto immune although she's getting some eczema flair ups.

PA diagnosed reflux at one point but ozermaprole(sp?) seemed to make her feel more sick.

So theres nothing physical we can pinpoint except hormonal and all GP can suggest is that we re-run bloods and try the minipill.

Mentally she is a bit stressed at school but apart from when she's ill she seems ok in herself. She has always been sicky when tired so I don't know if nausea is caused by tiredness or a symptom in itself. She is better in holidays but she gets to sleep in and take it easy then

I'm feeling at a loss with it all. If there's a physical cause then what are we missing? If it's not then do we push for medication to help with (possible) anxiety? She is also speaking to wellbeing people at school and the GP practice and trying all that we ask like more exercise, healthy eating etc.

We will try minipill but I suspect it'll just make her feel a bit crap all month rather than half of it.

If you're still reading then thank you and any thoughts welcome!

Has she ever worn a smart watch? Check she doesn't have episodes of fast heart rate when she is feeling ill.
DD has dysautonomia which makes her feel "weird" and nauseous for episodes

Thank you @Chocolatebuttonanyone - no she doesn't but could borrow mine, that's a good call

I had similar at her age and it eventually turned out to be a form of migraine. You don’t have to have a headache as the dominant symptom. Would also correlate with it being a few days here and there and linked to hormones.

Thanks @RealGoldOrca that's interesting - I did flag to GP and they dismissed but may be worth revisiting. Did any treatment help?

Low ferritin means anaemia and anaemia can get worse during menstruation, can cause additional symptoms like anxiety and rashes and even heart problems if left untreated for a long time
