How long am I going to be ill (Virus/Cold/Covid)? It’s been an age already

I been feeling ropey for ages now and just wondering how long before I can get out and enjoy this wonderful weather.Has anyone else had this bug?

Timeline:
Good Friday to Easter Sunday: horrible headache but assumed it was hangovers 🙄
Easter Monday to Friday 25th: Headaches and very shivery and sweaty, especially overnight.
Sat 26th- now: mild sore throat over the weekend which got worse and is now a very sore throat accompanied by a hacking cough (obviously worse at night).

When will this go away? Luckily I work from home, and I haven’t got that awful brain fog, although nearly a fortnight of awful sleep is taking its toll now!

I empathise, although different symptoms - intense fatigue, body aches, off food for me but completely floored since Easter and now I have shingles!! Very very frustrating when the weather is so nice and work/life is so busy. Hope u start to feel better soon.

Btw there seems to be lots of varying but long lasting viruses/covid around. Friends have had similar to you. I think mine is covid as feels slightly stranger than usual viruses although I have never ever tested positive.

Oh gosh @scrumbrum12 Shingles sounds awful, your bug has really done a number on you. Sending you whatever healing vibes I can muster

Thanks, you too, I know it’s hard to give in and rest when self employed!! Hopefully this will be the last of the year and we can enjoy summer :)

ShaunaSadeki · 30/04/2025 10:27

I also think mine might be Covid as the symptoms keep changing.

I had covid last month. A week mostly in bed. A week up and about doing minor house chores. Terrible headache and severely congested for the full two weeks. Then a week feeling just grotty and exhausted. It's mostly gone now (4 weeks later)

PullTheBricksDown · 30/04/2025 11:01

I had this mystery virus before Easter and just didn't feel right for ages. So it's not just you. Rest as much as you can and go easy on yourself.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 30/04/2025 11:26

I’ve had something like this too, also since Easter, although mine also includes nausea (finally lost some weight; bonus!) and I even vomited once. Mainly the flu-like aches, night sweats, headaches and general exhaustion. I honestly thought it must be meningitis or sepsis one night as I felt like death.

Spent days just laying on the sofa feeling very sorry for myself and now have a lingering sore throat and gluey phlegm (sorry tmi!). My DP had it much more mildly than me, about a week before I got ill. He’s still got the sore throat and phlegm. Hope everyone who has it feels better soon.

Sending healing vibes to all still suffering. It sounds like I am in this for a while yet. I have been making massive progress with exercise recently and I am hating sitting here feeling it all wither away but know that I need to rest up

DH is just starting to get over this virus- it’s been at least 3 weeks and he’s looked like death in the early days and lost a fair bit of weight due to a lack of appetite. I was thinking sepsis at one point.
Hes now left with a lingering (and annoying) night time cough.
Some really nasty and long lasting viruses around at the moment!

PullTheBricksDown · 30/04/2025 21:59

Yes, I had the never ending cough. I also felt really drained of energy for weeks so don't be surprised if it's hard to summon up the will to exercise, or do anything really.

Just updating this zombie thread as I finally cracked and went to the Drs and I have a bacterial chest infection and need to take antibiotics and rest. So if there are any other martyrs out there still suffering, don’t leave it nearly 5 weeks before getting looked at.

I feel so ill. Its been about 3 weeks. Started with super sore throat then progressed to generally feeling a bit shit every afternoon and achey in waves, then last few days its ramped up to bloating, blocked nose, complete lethargy and achey face. Brain turned to mush. Feel so tired and rubbish.

My DP had it too before me and he ended up having to get antibiotics for a chest infection, and our daughter was ropey for weeks.

Hoping a good rest this weekend will help. Solidarity to everyone else going through it.

ShaunaSadeki · 16/05/2025 20:18

Oh sorry to hear that you are suffering too @Bimblebombles, if you don’t perk up soon, get yourself to the docs.
