Emergency Dentures?

My Dad (84) lost his dentures about ten days ago and is unable to eat solid food. He is living on Fortisips and ice cream basically. He is not registered with a dentist due to a complete lack of teeth for several years. I have tried getting him an NHS dentist but the earliest appointment I can get is about two months from now. He could go private but the cost is ludicrous and he would have trouble affording it. I've tried calling his doctor in the hope that he could get a referral ASAP but this had not worked so far (I may get a call back).
I'm finding this trouble bizarre considering that it must be having a bad effect on his health and the NHS is apparently useless.
Any help?

My dad had dentures all his life and never used a normal dentist. There were specific places that only do dentures. Worth doing some research on local places that make dentures, as I think it’s a separate thing, NHS or otherwise.

Just had a quick look and you’re right, nhs says go via dentist but that page also does a lot of ‘you’d can get more/better if you go private’ so that might be the only way to sort it without a long wait/lot of luck. The guy who made my dad’s final set was quite an artist, and if memory serves they did payment plans. Hope you can get it sorted one way or another.

Have you tried 111 for advice as ti where to go? Agree a dentures centre may be best idea. Dh has had some adjusted same day.

I called 111 and they just directed me to the NHS website and a list of local dentists which I had already looked at. Surprisingly unhelpful.

Where did he get the dentures from? Can't they provide a replacement set?

StMarie4me · 29/04/2025 21:22

Just find a dental laboratory- they would be the ones making the dentures anyway- they should be able to sort you out!

Thanks all. We can't remember where he got them from. I'll try a laboratory directly.
