Perforated eardrum…have you had one?

I was diagnosed a few days ago after some pain in my ear and face.
Now on antibiotics.
From what I understand this can take a few weeks to repair, at least, and I just have to cope with the pain and discomfort. Luckily I don’t feel ill.
What did you do to help yourself with a perforated eardrum?

Heat is really helpful, if you have one of those little bean bags that go in the microwave and hold it over the ear and side of face.

Keep it dry, take pain relief, and get it checked in a few weeks by an audiologist. Not all perforations heal in adulthood, depends on the size and location.

Thanks @Realisation14@DamnitCarol
Does this same pain last for weeks? Hope not!

Yes. I was hospitalised (mastoiditis) perforated ear drum after. Luckily it healed and I only lost 2% hearing.
Don’t get it wet, I used cotton wool and when I washed my hair which was hospital advice. Heat - I used a warm hot water bottle. I still don’t go swimming. If water gets in it won’t heal.

The pain will subside but it will take awhile.

The pain is due to the infection, hopefully it will subside with antibiotics!

@Glitchymn1@DamnitCarol
Thank you both

Unfortunately I've had several. I always find the pain subsides as soon as the antibiotics have cured the infection - after that the actual perforated eardrum never hurts me. I hope you feel better soon.

I had one a good few years ago following an ear infection. It was the most painful thing ever! Was a bit of a relief when the drum burst….lots of goo on the pillow. Was able to get antibiotics the following day and it took a few days to feel better. Was around 8-9 months before I had my hearing back though!
