yellow snot - infection?

my two dd's are both very snotty at the moment and it's yellow (sorry!). they are not unwell in that they don't have temperatures, are eating normally and seem okay-just coldy. Is this a sign of an infection or normal and should i just let it ride through??

green snot is usually a sign off infection

yellow snot is pretty normal IME

that's what i thought too until a friend said infection this morning....
