Ongoing Temperature

I am writing this at 4am with match sticks in my eyes 👀

My little boy is 6 months. He has had a temp since last Saturday. Went to out of hours Sunday night as temp reached 39 something.

They prescribed antibiotics for a chest infection. Cold symptoms present. Said his chest sounded wrattly.

Fast forward to today, temperature still present but again 39 odd when he woke in the morning. Giving calpol and nurofen around the clock to manage.

Baby reacted to antibiotics: diarrhoea and stomach cramps. Went back to GP who said come off antibiotics and diagnosed as a viral infection.

I explained the temperature has been ongoing since Last Saturday, possibly friday. He isn’t concerned as my baby is still feeding really well.

Its obviously great that he is feeding well. But I am getting concerned with how long this temp is lasting.

Any reassurance that its normal to last this long? GP said it should ease by Friday but there is no sign of it breaking! Obviously i will go back Friday but wanted others experience.

His cold started early last week Monday. Had vaccines Wednesday. Then by Friday/Saturday cold has worsened and temp has been present since. Really congested and conjunctivitis but no other alarming symptoms.

My one and three year old have both had some viruses recently with temperatures spiking for over a week- my elder suffers from febrile seizures so I understand how worried you must be with a little one with a temperature. I don’t know if it’s normal or not but there are some nasty bugs around. Always trust your instincts on if you need to see another doctor or not.

Thank you this is really helpful. There doesn’t seem to be any other signs of infection so hopefully it is just a very long virus!
