Not a hernia, but what?

For about a year, on & off, I've had a pain above my stomach at the bottom of my ribs. Sometimes if I bend forward it feels like something is coming out and then painfully going back in when I stand up.

I did go to the Dr who suspected a hernia and sent me for an ultrasound. They saw nothing odd or out of place on the ultrasound so no hernia.

I will obviously go back to the Dr's but I just have no idea what it could be. It's currently hurting at the moment, but other days I don't notice it at all.

I have a hernia in my diaphragm. It doesn’t show on ultrasound. I’ve just had a gastroscopy and seen the photos which show it clearly. Ask to be referred for one.

Thank you! I will when I go back to the Dr's. Can I ask what your symptoms are?

@WolowlThe same as yours.

@Longingforspringtime sorry to come back to this. I have got a gastroscopy scheduled for next week and just wanted to ask how the procedure was like for you etc. I've never had anything done in the hospital so all new ground.
Many thanks!

I have a hernia diagnosed by endoscopy. I opted for sedation and apart from having the numbing spray before the sedation was administered, I don't remember any thing about it. Could eat and drink an hour after due to the numbing spray and didn't feel any the worse at all

Thanks @jettisoned that sounds good. I will need to be sedated I think, I gag/am sick very easily so don't think it would be easy for them to do it without sedation.

I did gag with the numbing spray but it was over really quickly. I'm sure you'll be fine- I was really tense thinking about it. But it was really okay. I wouldn't stress if I had to have another one.
