Abdominal/ pancreatic CT scan

I’ve got to have a CT scan of my pancreas/ abdomen at some point. Does anyone know if they have to give a contrast dye IV? I only ask because the skin on my arms and hands will make it difficult to get a canula in. I’ve been having my blood tests from my feet.

Yes, I had contrast when I had an abdominal CT

Yes, highly likely that contrast will be used. Once you get an appointment through it would be a good idea to contact the department and explain you have poor IV access. They may be able to make alternative arrangements eg ultrasound guided cannulation but usually best if they know in advance.

They rang me this afternoon and I’m going tomorrow, they said I do need contrast so I said I’m difficult to canulate so they made it for the hospital rather than the community one and will let them know.
