Gastritis?

I’m looking for some words of hope!

After taking ibuprofen for several days I developed upper abdominal and chest pain, which has been so debilitating, as I can barely eat and am getting only a little sleep. I’ve tried lansoprazole, which gave me awful diarrhoea, and I’m now taking omeprazole. I’ve been like this for four weeks and have been referred for a gastroscopy, although I have no idea how long I’ll have to wait for it.

Can anyone who has suffered from what my GP thinks is gastritis, give me an idea of how long this might go on for me? I’m starting to worry that it will never heal, but maybe I’m being unrealistic. Just so miserable with the pain and not eating. Thank you!

Yes I had it. Cut out alcohol for over a year ( hardly drink now) coffee is acidic and I avoid very unripe fruits. carb helps like a plain biscuit or toast. I sympathise. However the stomach lining will heal itself, be patient and take it slowly! And yes mine was ibuprofen related ( awful period pains and hormone headaches )

I know it seems like it will never get better, but it will.

I find plain digestive biscuits, Weetabix and mashed potato is all I really fancy when I have this (had it several times over the years).

Other things that can help are raw cabbage, camomile tea and licorice.

Keep taking the omeprazole as it does help, so does the mega-expensive Gaviscon. When you come off the omeprazole make sure you do it gradually so that you get no rebound effects.

You have my sympathy - it's very unpleasant.
