Echocardiogram - results

Orangesandlemons82 · 19/04/2025 13:03

I had an echocardiogram (scan of heart) and ECG last Tuesday. I got the impression from the sonographer that he had found a problem. I have no follow up booked. If you have had an echocardiogram and a problem was found, how quickly did you hear from the hospital? I wouldn't be worried normally, but I have no follow up arranged and don't want to be missed if something is wrong!

Probably a week or two (my echos are always abnormal due to a congenital condition).
Does your hospital have a patient portal? The result might appear on there before being sent to you.

My understanding is that the technicians operating the machinery don't tend to discuss their interpretation of the diagnostic data from the machinery, they leave all that to the Consultant cardiologist.

so I would try to put it out of your mind for now because you can be certain if anything does show up of concern you will be contacted as a priority, they always sent the report and outputs back to your GP anyway so you'll get to know all the details, plus any recommendations in the letter regarding a follow up appointment to discuss the results with you and any further actions to be taken,

@daisychain01 @APSSucks thank you both for your replies. I do have a patient portal and get a text if it is updated so will keep an eye out for that in the next couple of weeks. I wasn't worried at all before the test, but since the test I have been in a bit of a panic 🤦‍♀️

If there is anything to panic about, they'll get back to you reallllll quick.
