Very painful left side of throat - a few days after recovering from strep/tonsillitis

Hi all. I likely had either tonsillitis or strep a week or so ago (very sore throat, white patches) for which the GP prescribed antibiotics. It seemed to clear up, and besides a residual cough, I was feeling mostly normal. Over the past few days I've developed a very painful and tight feeling, particularly when swallowing, on the left side of my throat. The pain is now really bad, and I'm worried it's something like quinsy. I feel fine otherwise though - no viral symptoms or fever. I tried having a look down my throat and it looks basically normal to me.

Would quinsy be something you can see? It's so painful to even talk.

I had quinsy when I was a teenager. It was exactly like you described. Very painful on one side. My tonsils were very swollen at the time though as I hadn't been treated for the tonsillitis and it developed into quinsy. Do you feel any swelling in your neck or under your jaw? It could be possible that you needed a longer course of antibiotics, as it's maybe not totally cleared up. I would contact your GP, or if it starts getting worse then call 111. Hope you start to feel better soon!

You need to see a GP for another round of antibiotics, preferably a longer course than the first one.
