Medial collateral ligament tear

I developed a little pain - very low level- at a point inside my right knee. I carried on as normal and then, when I turned while filling the kettle in the kitchen, I heard a noise from my knee and the pain was worse. After a few days I went to the Minor Injuries Unit and diagnosed with a medial collateral ligament tear. They just said to rest it, elevate the leg with ice on the knee and take codeine.
one week on I’m feeling terrible. Codeine makes me feel terrible and doesn’t stop the pain. The ice pack makes it hurt more. I can’t walk very far without the whole knee hurting. My sleep is disrupted.
The MIU asked me to self refer for phisio but when I did I was told 8 to 11 week wait.
Does anyone else have experience of this injury? I just want to be back to normal asap,

Yes, I had one last year. It was excruciating at times. I was given crutches and they enabled me to actually get to the bathroom etc. I paid for physio as I didn't want to wait. I was given specific exercises which changed after each assessment.

The exercises helped but so did time and resting it when I could. I went down to one crutch as soon as I was able to and then used a knee brace for several more weeks if I knew I'd be doing a lot of walking.

I'm sorry you have this, it can be really painful.
