Does this sound like MS?

Started in left hand like I was being poked with needles in my finger tips, ring finger, travelled down my hand and forearm like a shock wave.

Arm pain and weakness with any use at all both sides

I feel like someone is poking me with a small hot needle or zapping me in my feet, forearms, tummy, face shoulder blades, arms

Typing hurts after 5 minutes, about a 3 on the pain scale, I get zaps in my finger tips, then my whole hands feel tingly and the overall sensation is decreased. My hands always feel cold.

Writing with a pen hurts pretty much straight away and my hand writing has become unintelligible.

Grip strength effected quite prominently in right hand, left hand is getting worse.

Aching hands after hanging out washing, loading tumble dryer and washing machine.
Hands feel like they're on fire and throb with pain mostly in the knuckles and fingers + thumb.

New symptoms in past 3 months:

Feel like someone is pouring water down my legs, arms and scalp, I get the scalp feeling more than anything else.
In the evening half my face seems to drop
Stress brings on my symptoms especially the jaw pain. (I have a referral to maxillofacial, a tooth is leaning on my facial nerve causing neuralgia but I thought I’d mention.)

I have had intermittent trouble swallowing at times..

Occipital pain/back of my head at the base of the neck throbs and aches.

Rib/side pains near breast both sides mostly right side though.

Shortness of breath

Ache behind right eye, have had a it checked by an optician and optic nerve is intact and healthy.

Light-headedness

Pain behind eye, following jaw ache, travels down my neck and then my lip will feel numb

Migraines on the left side of my head, temple & behind eye

Near Constant neck pain C6-C8 spine down

Shoulder pain, traps so tight it hurts.

Vision blurs a lot in the morning and when I'm in pain (I have a lazy eye so I can’t tell if it effects my left eye, I have almost no vision in it.)

I am currently under a hospital consultant but they are baffled. I know I should be having an MRI done soon, but I wanted to reach out to see if anyone with MS could tell me if this sounds familiar? Aware there are so many nerve conditions

I had a similar array of weird symptoms. Turned out it was Lyme disease which if left untreated can cause all sorts of oddities.

I have Cervical myelopathy treated two c levels, just gets one lesion less on the mri then ms.
For a month local nhs physio really wanted me to believe I just had a virus.

Some of your symptoms scare me. As the CM advanced it felt like I was being slowly electrocuted.

Push for an mri. Don’t bother with the GP (any referral just gets rebuffed by a hospital if they pick up you are self motivated to refer one’s self to the physio) just straight to A&E if you loss senses down below (toileting)

For like the second time in as many weeks there was a daytime programme on earlier with some lunatic saying back pain isn’t real. What a world we live in.

@Ladymuck2022
Thank you, the one that really scares me is when sometimes I cannot get my words out, I know what I want to say but my brain is just not firing.. I can't explain it? I feel foggy, distant and half my head hurts behind my eyes, my vision will be quite blurred when this happens, I've spoken to my husband a few times and he says your face isn't dropping and we do the FAST test.. Next time it happens I think I'll go A&E.
I feel very heard, I wish you all the best

Heya, I got diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I had a full spine MRI.
But I still get a lot of the overlapping stuff, I started getting severe migraines that make me puke so I'm going to ask for an MRI of my brain next year if I consistently get ongoing MS features

Neurology health professional here. Haven't read other responses yet.
I wouldn't say this sounds like typical MS (if there is such a thing) at all - at least not from my experience. But your symptoms do sound neurological in nature.
The thing that stands out to me is the constant neck pain and barrage of upper limb symptoms. It's possible you could have some kind of spondylosis or spinal cord compression in your neck - an MRI would show this.
The other symptoms could have all sorts of causes, but you do need to be under a neurologist - what is your consultant's specialism?
The shortness of breath is strange as is the swallowing issues - again though, this could potentially be related to a cervical spinal cord issue.
How soon is the MRI?

Oops, just gone back to the thread and seen your update which is clearly ages after the original post - sorry very late to the party there!!
I had no idea fibro could cause all that - the MRI spine was clear?
I'd be pushing for an MRI brain and I'm surprised they didn't do this at the same time as the spinal one.

Cornishclio · 14/12/2025 23:19

My brother has MS and those symptoms don't sound like his. He has had vision disturbances. He does not get pain but sometimes pins and needles or tightening around his body. He gets tired and the leg drop and loss of balance occasionally if he has overdone things. The MRI will show lesions so they should definitely be able to tell then.

Hi there, thank you for your response - yes my spine MRI was clear to my complete surprise :/ I will deffo do this, I keep getting the feeling like someone is pouring water over my brain, so weird. I'm on amitriptyline and that's helping a lot with my nerve related pains, thank god.

I had similar symptoms on and off years ago. I was convinced it was MS too. I had two MRIs about 2 years apart, both normal. The neurologist said it was probably "atypical migraine." I felt fobbed off at the time but the more I've looked into migraines, the more it becomes likely. They can cause all kinds of neurological symptoms. You might have a few things going on.
