What is this infection?!

I'm on day 5 of some horrendous illness. It started with a fever and a really sore throat that was streaked with white patches (not on the tonsils, but further down). The GP diagnosed it as "strep throat" and prescribed antibiotics. I'm on day 3 of the antibiotics now and whilst the throat is ever-so-slightly better, I now also have a full-blown cough and a very snotty nose that definitely wasn't there in the first 3 days of illness. The GP said that bacterial infections like Strep don't tend to cause typically viral symptoms like runny noses and coughs, so I'm a bit confused.

I didn't think it was covid due to the distinct white patches in my throat - which do seem to suggest strep - but I don't know anymore gaaah. Could I have two viruses at once?

It's perfectly possible to have bacterial chest infections that cause coughing!

And a viral infection can cause a bacterial chest infection.

Immunity low, you’ve got two bugs.
Get better soon!
