How long does a viral rash last?

Dd has had a rash since Sunday, initially it covered her entire body, but now is mainly on her cheeks and arms. It seems to fade and come back all day though.

Took her to OOH on Sunday, and they said it was a viral rash, as she has a runny nose too. I took her to A&E on Monday for reasons that currently escape me, but to do with the rash. And for those of you that saw my other thread, back to A&E on Tuesday because she did a black poo and I googled. Stupid.

All medics have said it is a viral rash, checked her ears, throat, and other obs and given her the OK. She was kissing the A&E doctor and laughing etc. She is reasonably well in herself, although her temp is up and down, but she is eating normally.

She slept very badly last night, and was absolutely baking hot.

Today she is still a little hot and whingey, but has eaten fine and is crawling and playing, albeit a bit clingy.

I don't think I need to go back to the doctors or to A&E , but can anyone offer me any advice re the rash and the temp?

If she had anything serious would it be apparent by now? She has had viral rashes twice before when she was 4mo, but they only lasted a couple of days.

Any offers?

What does the rash look like? Is it raised, rough to the touch?
How high is the temp?

funnypeculiar · 15/05/2008 15:08

Hummm, not an expert, but dd had one that lasted a couple of days last week - very high temperatures too.

Have you tried ringing NHS direct?

how old is she ? Could it be slapped cheek ? ds had it at 8 months and was pretty poorly for about 10 days and rash came and went.

I didn't really think it was necessary, funny, as nothing has really changed since the 3 A&E and OOH dashes, apart from the fever.

Its impossible to take her temp because she won't keep still, but I know she's hot. Its raised in placed and flat in places.

Weird.

LIZS she's one on Saturday, would slapped cheek cover the whole body?

DS was like this last week, up and down not really ill but not really well either. His rash looked a little like heat rash, all pimpley. It lasted over a week.

Pinkjenny · 15/05/2008 15:29

Booge - yeah sounds exactly the same, she's still playing and eating but just not quite herself and her temp fluctuates.

Everyone keeps telling me its heatrash or allergy to suncream, however it does not go on cooling, just fades.

I don't know why I'm so worried, considering she's been checked three times and has had viral rashes before! I think the temp just concerned me.
