How to get hospital results onto NHS app

HarryVanderspeigle · 06/04/2025 07:07

I have the nhs app and can see results from blood tests etc carried out by my GP. I am now going to be needing hospital led treatment over an extended time. The app says these are on patient at hand, so I set that up, but there is nothing there. It gives me the option of adding results, but I can't, as I don't have them.

Anyone know what to do, or if it is possible? I did ask when I was last in the hospital, butter the doctor and nurse didn't know.

Following as mine don’t show either

I've tried but so far no luck, the surgery staff and Drs say they can see results of tests ordered by hospital but they don't know how to get them on the NHS app so I can see them.

So I just phone the consultant's secretary and ask for results to be emailed to me, which they're happy to do...but its annoying as I have to ask them each time, they won't automatically do it.

I don't think the NHS app does this.

I have a separate app for hospital results. Have a look to see if your hospital does this. If you post the name of the hospital or trust other posters may be able to help you.

If you open the app and go into GP Health Records, at the bottom of the options it says 'documents'. That's where I (eventually) found my full test results from a hospital appointment.

My GP seems to upload feedback (test results, communications etc) from the hospital - they don't appear automatically and are often coded.

Some say "auto filled", but they don't seem to appear until the results are reviewed. Eg I had blood done on Fri morning and the results showed on the hospital app (MyChart - which sents me a notification) on Fri evening, but arent showing on the NHS app.

The NHS app does not do this. The main issue is that results may need discussion and breaking bad news.

For example if a scan showed a cancer or something that needed explaining.

It would have to be an automated process for all results which would include potentially very sensitive things .

I have just googled to see if there is an app. Their website says all about being able to book amd change appointments, but indicates that other information is yet to be developed. Thank you for the offer of help, but I don't want to say where I am on a public forum. Most people don't know yes, so wouldn't want anyone to recognise me and start asking questions.

"As the portal is developed there will be access to clinic letters, test results, care plans, information about allergies, medication lists, discharge summaries, and other health information."

I do have this, but it only has letters the hospital has sent them, not blood tests or scans. Not that I would know how to interpret a scan, but blood tests are really clearly presented on it.

I've just noticed that I actually have test results in the NHS app, there is a Test Results section but it doesn't have any number on it (like the consultations, medications etc ones do) so I have never clicked on it. Having just done so there are various ones, although again they don't appear until they are populated by the GP.

The app my hospital use (MyChart) is one they have signed up to, not their own.

Currently, it is showing letters to the gp after the event, so I have already had a discussion. I assumed there was some sort of release button so I can't see beforehand. I do see why they would need to say some things in person before that, no matter how infuriating it is waiting for an appointment. Then I can ask questions etc.

My NHS app does this - I have recently had a mix of GP and hospital-led treatment and I can see the results of all the blood tests I’ve had (plus x-rays). However, I have no idea how it happened plus it only includes the details from one NHS Trust. I’m under a consultant at a different NHS Trust for something else and none of the results from there are linked up. So maybe it varies from Trust to Trust?

Edited to add: It’s automatic as well, I’m pretty sure nobody looks at them before releasing them because often I see the results before the doctor has and they appear at random times.
