How quickly to increase lamotrigine

I currently take 175mg of lamotrigine twice a day for epilepsy.

This is being increased to 200mg 2 x a day.

I can’t remember how quickly I’m supposed to increase it. Would it be 25mg extra in the morning dose for a week, and then an extra 25 in the evening after a week? I can’t remember what they told me and can’t get hold of the nurse until Monday.

My DC was recently increased to 150mg, broken down into 75mg in the morning and 75mg in the evening. She wasn't advised to increase it slowly over a period. It was pretty much 100mg on the Friday and 150mg on the Saturday

Can you go see a pharmacist or walk in clinic?

It’s a small dose up isn’t it. My daughter is on 250mg am and 250mg pm. I think if I was increasing her, I’d just do the 25mg both am and pm. She seizes a fair amount though. We have gone up in 50mg doses in the past I think.

Thanks all. I haven’t had my dose increased for 4 years so I can’t remember what I’m supposed to do!! Sounds like it would be fine to take 25 extra in the morning and evening! Thank you

Standard titration rates for Lamotrigine is 25mg every two weeks.

So take 200mg in the morning and 175mg at night for two weeks and then go up to your 200mg twice a day.

You should always increase lamogtringe in 25mg increments.
Saying that, I went up from 100mg BD to 150mg BD ( so basically 100mg increase per day)
This was increased by psychiatrist.

Mine was increased by 25mg each fortnight

My DC was on 50mg morning and 50mg evening, we increased slowly, 25mg per 2 weeks, to 75mg morning and 75mg evening. DC was also weaning off Sodium Valproate at the same time so we were advised to do the whole thing slowly.

Those posters saying to increase slowly - was that what all your Consultants advised? I'm quite concerned reading your posts, and it sounds like we were advised incorrectly. Although DC was absolutely fine with an immediate increase. Again though, we were prescribed Buccal Midizolam without being "trained" in how to use it

You should always increase lamogtringe slowly as it can cause a life threatening skin rash.
Any medication that has the direction "buccal" means to put "inside cheek"
Any consultant should tell you this.
Hope this helps

Thanks @CaptainBeanThief . I've never been told about the rash. Was told about the Buccal though apparently I should have been shown.
