Oh please help me ladies! I fell very badly down some stairs on Fri. Was in so much pain (back and shoulder) that I got up in the night to get some water, blacked out and vomited. Called NHS Direct and they said "If you still feel sick and dizzy in the morning see your gp." Well I didn't and was in a lot of pain but still tried to go back to work on Monday as I feel guilty about having time off. (Having hysterectomy in June so not the most popular member of staff atm.) Anyway, decided that I should see gp Mon pm and she told me to stay off 2 weeks but I said "Oh, just sign me off for a couple of days and light duties after that, I'll be ok!" Utter madness! Had to ring up yesterday and tell them I am taking the rest of the week off. Now it's Thursday and I am still in a lot of pain. Cannot sit, stand or lie down comfortably. The worse thing is I work at the school my daughter attends, so I have to see my boss when I drop her off etc. Yesterday he looked at me like I was something he'd scraped off his shoe! I'm feeling really sorry for myself. I'm sure I must have fractured my coccyx because this really doesn't feel like just a bruise. My shoulder and arms are black and blue but there is no bruise there, which seems remarkable! Now wishing I had gone to the A&E to get an X ray cos at least then they wouldn't think I was mitching off!!! Is it too late to get an X ray now?

i was told they dont x-ray coccyx on the nhs, but they did give me a neck x-ray and was sent home with painkillers

A friend of mine got hit by a car. He went to A&E and at first they picked up his fractured shoulder but ignored the pain in his lower back. 3 weeks later he was still in agony and went back to A&E, this time they did x-ray and yes he had fractured his coccyx. He is in alot of pain still, I'm affraid to say. The accident was in Feb. Unfortunately other than pain killers and anti inflamatorys there is nothing they can do anyway, it just takes time to heal.

I suffer with a pregnancy related coccyx condition however after my 3rd who will be one tomorow it has never gone away. I can not sit, stand or lay in one position for long, the sitting and standing action can be agony.

You could go to A&E, although they may not be able to do anything to fix it, they will be able to give you the right pain relief that you would not be able to get over the counter.

Good Luck and hope you feel better soon. It is agony!
