I didn't really know where to put this topic, but I supose here is as good as any.

Well.. Ive had the implant in since october last year, everything was fine my periods virtually stopped apart from 1-2 days spotting a month which was great.
But now for the past 3-4weeks I have been spotting nearly every day. Its only a very small amount but enough to have to wear something and its driving me crazy. A few time I have thought it has stopped only to wake up a few days later to realise it has started again!!!
I am planning on going to the GP's on friday but I am intrested to know if this is normal or not.

this happened to a friend of mine too - kind of defeats the purpose of having it! She had it taken out after only a month or so as the bleeding got quite heavy and it was driving her mad!

It is very common to have intermittent spotting with implanon. It may get better, it may not. I often advise taking 3 packets of combined pill back to back to induce a state of not having any bleeds for a few months and then see if that stops the problem.

The other main reason why ladies get spotting is that they may have picked up an infection, particularly if you have had any new partners since starting the implant. I suggest that you should have some swabs taken.

If all else fails, you can always have it removed. However, some women are happy to tolerate some slight spotting knowing that they have good contraception. Its a very personal choice.

I hope this helps.

i have the implant and like you had no periods for 6 months wey-hey!! Then wam bam for next year was on about 2 weeks out of four. Has very slowly gone back to 10 days bleed per month, but as emma says, the benefit of having good contraception has outweighed the annoyance - just about.

I have the implant, had it for nearly three yrs, due to have it out in October. I had two years of a blissful period free life then things went downhill, had periods tha lasted two weeks and general spoting in the das between, its different with everyone and it has also made me gain some unwanted weight over the course of two and a half years. Heres a link to a forum chattin all about it, if you are interested.
