Deviated septum recovery?

I had a septoplasty last Friday and my nose is full of blood and gunk which doesn't stop oozing. I read a fair few threads about people's experiences before I had the op and everyone seemed to say the recovery was a breeze and they were back in work within a few days. I expected some gunk but this is gross! I didn't have any packing or stents put in, just dissolvable stitches. I feel exhausted and keep needing to change the nose gauze every few hours as it's all gunky. Any experiences with recovery would be gratefully received, I was hoping to feel a bit better by now but I can't go out without the nose gauze on or I'll be leaking everywhere!

Call the hospital for advice. I don't think I needed gauze after day 2, other than overnight. It sounds very uncomfortable for you. Once I started using saline spray it seemed to get mush less gunky. I think I started using it on about day 2 but can't totally remember. The worst part I remember was sleeping sitting up, I was so tired and uncomfortable. Once it's healed it'll be worth it.

Thanks so much for replying, I'll call them tomorrow as I definitely couldn't go outside without the gauze yet and that doesn't seem like most people's experience from what I've read. I've been doing the saline spray more today and it does seem to be easing up but I'll call just to confirm!

@Horizon32 How did you get on? Hopefully you're feeling much better by now.

Yeah I'm okay thanks! I started the saline spray and that helped a lot and the drainage eased off by about day 4-5. Although my baby then headbutted me square in my nose very hard and it started bleeding again 😂 I think the knock actually moved my septum a bit, but there's not much I can do now and the hospital said just to wait for my 6 week check up to see how it's healing!
