Anyone experienced this? I was woken today with excruciating pain in my calf from a leg cramps where my muscle contracted. I also experience cramps in my foot from time to time.

Any idea what causes this?

I get them occasionally usually at night in bed. You bet they are painful! I have to jump out of bed and stretch, stretch stretch while massaging like fury the shin, back of leg, foot, wherever is affected. All the while practically sobbing! I find rubbing in magnesium oil or spray really helps.

As for what causes it, I don't think anyone is really 100% sure, but over activity can be a factor. Deficiencies in certain minerals (can't remember which) is another factor. But I'm sure you've googled already.

Even though they are excruciating and I scream blue murder they are that bad, they are not known to be dangerous really. Now and then the pain is so bad that I take paracetemol once the spasm wears off. Look up "Charley Horse", it's the term they use in the US for muscle cramps.

Thank you so much. I'll get some magnesium oil. I think it's low magnesium/potassium but I take a daily supplement.
