Tooth Extraction Wait

I have just had root canal treatment and then the tooth broke and needs to be extracted. I'm on antibiotics as there is an infection under the tooth but the NHS dentist I'm with hasn't got an appointment for 2 months for the extraction. My sister said if I wait that long the infection may return. Anyone had a similar experience?

Yes, you’re probably going to spend most of the next 2 months on antibiotics and painkillers.

My dentist would work their magic to find you a slot or put you on the cancellation list.

Two months is ridiculous.

Would a private dentist do a tooth extraction ? or are they not allowed if you have a NHS dentist?

You can have the tooth extracted privately, no problems, you just need to take a copy of the x Ray with you. Ask your own practice who can email the X-ray .

Your own practice may have space privately to extract the tooth before the two month wait for a NHS appointment . NHS appointments and private appointments are booked into seperate times and spaces as in most practices the private work subsides the NHS work , which most practices lose money on.

If you can afford to go private then do it. I have a private dentist but unsure how much an NHs extraction is?

I have read that if you use Chlorhexidine mouthwash daily it will prevent a tooth infection. So I think I'll head down to Boots and buy some.
