Colonoscopy - when to take prep

Colonoscopy is at 8.30am on Friday.

Can someone advise what time is best to take prep?

I think you have to follow whatever guidelines you’ve been given because it depends on the specific prep they give you - it’s not always the same.

My dh had one last week and had to take senna tablets for 3 days beforehand and have a low fibre diet, and then from about 2pm the day before he started the prep and was on and off the toilet all evening. Colonoscopy at 9am the next day.

They will give you exact instructions. Mine was the first lot at 2pm and the second lot at 6pm, colonsocopy was at 9am
next day. It’s …. Interesting.

Definitely read the instructions the hospital give you as the ones in the box are a bit generic. The hospital instructions will be specific for your appointment time. When my appt was at 9am I had to take the first lot at 5pm and the second lot at 8pm the night before. It’s not fun. Don’t leave the house that night!!! If you put the prep in the fridge and use a straw to drink it, it’s a little more manageable. And have drinks of clear squash in between mouthfuls of prep. Good luck!

My appointment time has changed and I’ve just realised I was reading the afternoon pamphlet! All makes sense now.
