Am feeing sweaty at night but with cold feet. Feel achey, especially in lower back. Can you have back flu?

Kidneys?

Tinker · 13/05/2008 12:58

Are kidneys at teh sides of the back or towards centre? I don't want kidney problems

OP posts:
avenanap · 13/05/2008 12:59

Which part of the lower back? Any stinging wee? Are you getting up in the night to go to the loo? Are you going more then normal?

Cold feet are normal if you have a fever, the heat goes to where it's needed.

CountessDracula · 13/05/2008 12:59

prob a kidney infection

avenanap · 13/05/2008 13:00

Two kidneys, one either side of spine in between ribs an pelvis, one further in towards the spine then the other.

Kewcumber · 13/05/2008 13:01

you have a virus.

Promise thats what doctor will say.

I always get lower back painn with a temperature not necessarily kidney. kidney pain usually (but not always) towrds side of back or might be at front a little like period pain.

Tinker · 13/05/2008 13:01

No stinging wee or more wee. Feels more muscular than kidneyish (trying to talk herself out of kidney problems)

It will be a virus. But it's getting on my nerves. Had something similar about a year ago; felt as though whole body was on fire and could not get at all comfortable in bed.

OP posts:
avenanap · 13/05/2008 13:03

Any urgency? When you need to go you have to go now? Does it get better after you've been to the loo?

Muscular gets better if you stay still. Most of the time.

Tinker · 13/05/2008 13:09

No urgency. Honestly, no wee problems at all.

avenanap · 13/05/2008 13:12

You should visit the GP anyway, we are not doctors.

purpleduck · 13/05/2008 13:15

LOL kewcumber

I hereby award you your Medical diploma (or whatever it is...)
Thats why I rarely go.

GP "its a virus"
ME: "Well, what can I expect, how long generally does it take to go"
GP "hmm, its different for everyone"
GRR!!!

Tinker · 13/05/2008 13:17

And therein lies the pointlessness of visting a gp. Can't go to a Gp for mild fever.

OP posts:
avenanap · 13/05/2008 13:54

Yes you can. That's why they are there. They get paid to look at warts, varacous veins, listen to coughs and find the cause of mild fevers. Not every illness will have a raging temperature so this is not a good sign of whether someone is ill or not. You're not waisting any ones time.

If it's a virus then it's a virus. It you need some medication then at least you'll know. 10 minutes out of your life to check your health isn't asking too much. We are not doctors, we can't diagnose you, not even over the internet.

I used to work in a hospital. A 3 week old baby was sent to use because she had a fever, no other symptoms. She had all the necessary tests and we found out she had meningitis. If her parents had left her because they didn't want to waste the doctors time she would be dead. You're not wasting anyones time. They would rather check and find out it's nothing then not.

purpleduck · 13/05/2008 14:34

Of course the OP should GO to the drs - I think she just wanted a heads up on what it could be.

Tinker · 14/05/2008 19:24

Thank you purpleduck.

I went an osteopath this morning since back was gradually getting worse and worse and this morning was virtually siezed up. He gave me a good seiing to , albeit in my non-mathcing underwear Think fever/fluey symptoms were probably just co-incidence or exacerbated back due to curling up and feeling sorry for myself.

I know you meant well avenanap (I realised I've been reading your name as avanap 'ave a nap geddit?)

OP posts:
Tinker · 14/05/2008 19:24

had seized not was siezed!

The virus thing really annoys me as well.

Have been ill today and will only go to the doctor if I need a sick note, I know he will say virus.

Haylstones · 14/05/2008 19:45

FWIW, I had a really bad kidney infection with no wee symptoms at all- was feverish, high temp and lower back pain. Had several doses of antibiotics as was still bfeeding dd and the 'best' ones were incompatible and was close to being admitted to hosptial as they weren't working quickly enough. I often get utis and only get wee symptoms about half the time. I'd get checked out if I were you.

Tinker · 14/05/2008 19:49

Thank Haylstones but I'm pretty sure it is my back as had same pain (although not as severe this time) last October. Had to see an osteopath then as well. I can see from the way I'm listing that it's the same thing.

Haylstones · 14/05/2008 19:54

Good, just wanted to warn you! I've never felt so ill as when I had that infection
Glad ypu seem to be a bit better
