How long recover severe constipation?

Just liking to see if anyone can advise me?

Had severe constipation without knowing, as had my usual diarrhoea, which resulted in impaction and micralax enemas last Wednesday 🙈

It’s been awful, urgent diarrhoea, sore round arse. GP told me to take Fybogel so I’m doing that.

it’s easing a bit, but I’m really hoping to be able to leave the house without panicking 🙈 and just feel better!

No advice sorry but don't want you to feel ignored. Keep on top of water it will help.

Thanks, @Mooselooseinmyhoose , appreciated

No idea, but look for some good loo roll!! Or flushable wipes. Or can you install a temporary bidet? https://amzn.eu/d/ei2V0PL

I have some butt issues (awaiting surgery) and a week at my parents house with their cheapo loo roll underlined how much I appreciate the fancy stuff I buy 😂.

StillWate · 16/03/2025 21:35

Thanks @PaintDecisions and sorry you have butt issues, no fun!

I'm fortunate that I have an en suite and can jump in the shower. I say jump, more hobble 🙈

Noted on the loo roll, not something to skimp on in these dark times.. I just want this to stop now before I’m just confined to my house, shitting and crying

Even Lidl own brand but the balsam version is worth the little bit extra... I use Cushelle - no pilling!

PolitePoster · 16/03/2025 23:44

I sympathise, OP. I'm an IBS-C sufferer myself. It's not fun! Buscopan and Laxido are my dear friends. Plus, for the sore butt issues, I find Wype bum cleaner is really good, much better than any wipes I've ever used.

StillWate · 16/03/2025 23:51

Thanks @PolitePoster , this is new to me as I normally am totally the other way, don’t understand how this built up, for want of a better description 🙈 I’m now having urgency after anything I eat, which I’m assuming is due to the general irritation after the blockage

I do have Wype, cos of the aforesaid issues.

Very much not @Chilliflakesontuna . This has been the most horrible week, and I was very much hoping to feel better. I’ve name changed through the shame of this, but been here for years, way back past cancel the cheque

Im upset enough about all this, and was just hoping for advice and reassurance

Not really.

Sonolanona · 17/03/2025 23:24

Are you sure you are actually cleared out and not still having overflow diarrhoea? You should keep taking Movicol/Laxido/softerners for a while while your bowel recovers.
Vaseline for your poor bum!

Darkclothes · 17/03/2025 23:28

What medical condition do you have OP that is causing regular diarrhoea? Have you had a scope previously and a proper diagnosis?

A squatty potty, or anything to lift your feet up helps to open the sphincter and makes it 100x easier to poo if you are constipated. Bricks, a step, large jars can all help. Hopefully it eases soon.

@Sonolanona I truly hope not! Today was better, but no movement at all, which was a relief tbh though I hope it’s not starting again. I’m drinking loads of water, eating healthily and have fybogel. I guess my bowel will need time to recover, it’s been dramatic

it’s all been really quite horrible and scary.

I’ve just always had it, @Darkclothes . Bloods being done though. And thanks for that too.
