13 yr old dd, found 2 lumps to side of breast (if you can call it a boob, she's tiny!) 3 wks ago. Been seeing gp weekly who has been fab, today he said we need bloods and to see an oncologist. am freaking out, should I be?

Of course you're freaking out, who wouldn't but thinking calmly and logically most breast lumps are not cancerous and it may well be fatty tissue as her breasts are just starting to grow. My heart goes out to you at this worrying time and I hope you get the test results back quickly and get your mind put at rest.

MABS · 12/05/2008 22:02

many thanks, rationally i know you are right, but she has lost a fair bit of weight too, tho eats like a pig. I just wasn't expecting the gp to be that concerned really.

The GP is being thorough and not taking any chances - that's a good thing. The weight loss can be explained away by teenage growth spurt. Not dismissing your feelings by the way, just thinking of rational explanations. You will be terrified until you get the results and no one can make you feel better but thinking positive might help you stay calm for her sake. Good luck.

All doctors look for the nasties first to rule them out, this is standard practice. It may appear as if they think it could be something serious but they really are working their way through a checklist. I had a cousin who had a cyst in her breast, she's only 18.

Oh MABS

Has she had immune problems before at all? I know NHL is more common if there is some history, but that is about all I do know about it.

Thinking of you xx

MABS · 13/05/2008 19:16

OP posts:
chunkychips · 28/05/2008 23:58

very good news about blood tests. Try not to worry too much, doc is just doing his job, probably knows you're worried sick so pushed for an early appt for you. Good luck for monday.

micci25 · 29/05/2008 00:03

are the lumps painfull? cystic fibrosis breast disease is common in young women as it is caused by hormonal inbalances.

really hope everything works out well as i am sure it will and they do have to rule out all the really nasty stuff first just incase. so try not to worry.

MABS · 29/05/2008 08:54

i know ,i know ,many thanks for support.
