Colorectal cancer

I have blood in my poo. Dark blood. My poo has been all over the place I'd say the last year or more. Just recently I've either been really constipated or had poo that's been explosive, I actually shat myself one night coming home from work. It was awful!

I get stomach pains after I eat.

One thing that's concerning me though is I've had a lump on the side of my abdomen, it's huge and really noticeable but the GP said she couldn't see the lump. It's definitely there and noticeable. It's massive and hard and uncomfortable if I lie on it.

I'm exhausted all of the time.

I'm terrified I've got colorectal cancer. I'm seeing the doctor soon.

Well done on getting the doctors appointment. Hopefully they will be able to arrange any scans etc to work out exactly what's going on and then treatment can go from there.

When do you see the doctor?

YouLeftYourFridgeOpen · 12/03/2025 20:09

I've had some checks recently because I might have seen some blood as well. I'm not certain though.

I have horrendous diarrhoea every morning. Stomach pains. Upper and lower stomach.

My grandmother had bowel cancer when she wasn't a huge amount older than me so it is concerning.

I'm trying not to worry about it. It could all be nothing so try not to think too far ahead. See the GP and go from there.

Sending you a big hug x

Any blood in poo needs urgent investigation, did GP not get you to do a fit test and then get seen by a specialist for a colonoscopy to check for various medical conditions such as IBD, chrons or colitis. My 66 year old father in law had bowel cancer his only symptom was blood in poo, he didn’t have any pain, it was quite well advanced when it was discovered, but he was treated and lived until he was 88.

What a horrible time for you to be going through, especially where you have to wait for answers. Push for urgent blood tests, stool samples etc with your dr and phone them for updates if you don’t hear from them. Lean on friends, or family for support to help you through this. I hope that you find out what is wrong and that it’s quickly treatable.

Sending strength and virtual support during this stressful time OP 🌺

It's pointless saying don't worry OP, however I've just had a colonoscopy - I've had several of these camera investigations on various parts of my body and I find taking Diazepam (GP prescribed) helps me to actually lower my anxiety enough to actually turn up for the procedure, and I was also able to have gas and air aswell. I can't really remember anything about it, or any of the other procedures. Wishing you all the best X

I'm really sorry to hear that you are going through this. Are you of an age where you do the screening?
Please do not be fobbed off like I hear so many stories of, please push for the tests and scans, even if it's just to put your mind at rest. And get an urgent appointment with your GP, again, please don't be fobbed off

MissyB1 · 12/03/2025 21:24

When did you first go to the GP? You need an urgent colonoscopy on the two week wait rule.
