What's wrong with my tongue?

Does anyone have any guesses? It's sore, red arund the edges and in the middle, painful to eat. My inner lip and cheeks are also red and painful.

What's wrong with my tongue?

No idea but I had this a few years ago and was in agony for days. Literally lived on ice cream to cool the pain from the blisters

Assumed it was hand foot and mouth as I had a nursery aged child at the time

How long has it been like this?
If days review in 2 weeks- possibly viral.
If weeks to months get a blood test for anaemia and vitamin deficiencies

Could it be Oral Allergy Syndrome?

Sarahjayney · 12/03/2025 17:24

Thank you for the replies, it has been on and off for a few months now but it's particularly uncomfortable at the moment.

I have an appointment with the GP in 2 weeks to discuss and ask for bloods to be taken as on my last FBC my B12 and Folate were low so could this be linked?

Is it yeast infection?

Yes anaemia and deficiencies of B vitamins can cause a sore mouth and tongue.
I once pointed out a completely smooth tongue to a patient, sent him to his GP and it turned out he had pernicious anaemia.
Not saying it is likely to be as serious as that but get it checked. Could also be oral thrush but that is uncommon without an underlying condition or reason.
