Please be gentle with me as i suffer from health anxiety and am so worried at the moment and can’t snap out of it.
I went to my GP as I noticed on and off discomfort in the top left side of my abdomen. Sometimes it’s dull ache, that’s the only way I can describe it. Not hurting but I know it’s there. They run all the blood tests and so far they are fine apart from amylase level being at 152. The doctor has requested a stool sample for faecal elastase. I googled it and freaked myself out now. Please help me to calm down as I think it’s the worst possible scenario! Thank you for reading.

Your amylase is only slightly raised as the upper limit of normal on most tests is 140. The range is a bell curve. A majority of people fit in the “range” but 2.5% of people who are normal will be either in the range of just slightly higher or lower. 95% of normal people fit in the “range” so you may just be one of the 2.5% of people who normally have a slightly elevated amylase.
It is unlikely to be anything to worry about but do the faecal test just as a back up. I really would try not to worry unless you are a big drinker or have gall stones. Good luck

@Difficultwill Thank you so much for responding. Really helpful. I do have a few other symptoms and when I look at them all together, in my head, it’s more sinister. But really good to know that upper limit for most is 140. My test results suggested upper limit is 100 and I completely freaked out!
