3 month old with cough

My DD has a cough that doesn't really seem to bother her until she gets worked up or cries, then she hacks away. Think she has a bit of a cold because her nose is bunged up. Is it worth taking her to the docs, or is it similar to an adult cold where the only thing you can do is wait it out? It's been a weekish so far. The coughing can be a bit scary because it sounds like she's going to choke!

Sorry if this is a daft question but it's the first time she's been ill and I don't want to waste the doctors time if he's just going to tell me to get some Calpol or Tixylix or something!

Thanks.
xx

I wouldn't worry too much as long as she is feeding OK, has wet nappies/poos, isn't wheezing or running a temperature. If she is bunged up then you can try raising the end of the cot, also taking her into the bathroom with the shower running so she can breathe in the steam. I don't think they recommend using cough medicine for young babies.

What sort of cough is it exactly? A chesty cough? A dry cough? One that sounds like a bark? Any fever?

My DD has had 2 couchs and she is 4.5 months. I just let it passed. If you have a baby clinic you could go to, you could just ask the HV there, so you won't need to make an appointment or anything?

my doc was Very Clear with me that under 6 months he wanted to see every sniffle, just so he could confirm that it was okay. i'd not panic at all, but i'd get an app. 3 months is very wee.

Thanks for the replies. Avenanap, its just a clearing the throat kind of cough. No fever, wheezing, rattling or anything. She's definately eating and pooing like an expert. I have HV coming so I will probably wait until I see her, unless it gets bad or a temp comes with.
