Avamys not working

Was prescribed Avamys for sinusitis 2.5 weeks ago but had no improvement with symptoms yet. I feel dreadful! I called GP who said it might take months to work!!?! I went into the pharmacy too yesterday to check I was using it correctly with right angle etc. I can’t really feel it when I spray it in nose unlike say beconese. Anyone else experience it not working? The sinusitis is a recurring issue and driving me up the wall. Also taking antihistamines and doing all the steaming. Symptoms exactly same as when they started a month ago, makes me feel I am barking up wrong tree and it’s something else…

What antihistamines are you taking? We’ve ditched avamys and just use antihistamines …,

JacksonStreet · 05/03/2025 08:28

Fexofenadine 120mg prescribed by GP. Currently breastfeeding so can’t buy them freely OTC. Thanks for your reply @BunsenBurnerBaby

not sure about BF angle but GP can prescribe higher. Give them a ring and tell them it’s not working and you want to review.

Just checking, did you read the instructions about shaking the bottle of Avamys really well before using it?

I'm just wondering because you say you can't 'feel' the spray. Do a trial spray into the air to check it is working.

Thank you @Marinel
i have been shaking for around 10 seconds, yes… have checked it is pumping out the spray… still dont feel it…

I was told to expect it to take 3-4 weeks to kick in but the effect is not sudden, it is a gradual improvement as the steroid takes the inflammation down

JacksonStreet · 05/03/2025 20:18

Thanks for this @QueenOfHiraeth
how long did it take to work for you? The odd day, it feels like it’s improving then back to the start again. V frustrating

Didn’t work for me either, I was given antibiotics in the end. Felt so much better within a couple of days! Sinusitis is absolute hell, hope you feel better soon

QueenOfHiraeth · 06/03/2025 16:35

@JacksonStreet I have to be honest it didn't work for me but that was my own fault. I was given it for hayfever and my symptoms were intermittent so I wasn't good at using it as regularly as it probably needed.
