Urinating every hour at night

Help! I’m not pregnant or diabetic and I’m having to get up to use the toilet every hour all night long. It’s ridiculous! I’ve always been the same, it’s not a new problem. I’m always running to the toilet during the day too and if I drink one cup of tea after another I’m weeing every 10 minutes…!

Does anyone have any similar issues? I envy those who can survive long car journeys or long walks without having to use a toilet.

Hi, do you think it could be a mental thing or just a physical one? My friend has what she calls 'urination anxiety' , it's like she can't stop thinking about it until she goes. It becomes habit and like a compulsion. If she wakes up she has to go, if she has a drink she thinks she needs to go (and does need to go) a few minutes later.
Her doc said her frequent urination can result in a weak bladder, so she has to go more often so a vicious circle! I think she's trying to learn to hold as long as she can and is try some hypnosis as well.

I don’t think it’s anxiety as loads come out plus it wakes me up at night and again it’s not just a small amount-it’s loads! It definitely makes me anxious when out in the car or somewhere that doesn’t have a toilet. It’s worse if I drink tea but I stop drinking tea at 5pm.

You drink one tea after another as you say. So lots of liquids so not surprising.

Two cups of tea in a row I mean. I stop drinking tea in the afternoon and drink mainly water or squash in the evening, not loads but still results in weeing all night.

See your gp?

ButterflyBitch · 04/03/2025 14:34

I had this. It was an overactive bladder and I had physio to help overcome it. Go to your GP as it can be sorted.

RandomMess · 04/03/2025 14:43

I would quit the squash.

I had this. Went to the GP a few years ago who gave me tablets to take for a few weeks. Can't remember what they were but since finishing the course I only get up once a night.

Hello. I used to have this problem too. I only drink 2 cups of tea a day now. One at 6.30 am and a decaffeinated by 11 am in the morning. Absolutely no tea after that time ever now. I also had to stop drinking coffee as it irritates my bladder. I drink cranberry juice with half water and ice and also just plain water now (2 litres a day). I only get up to go once in the night now. Have you had a urine sample checked recently to make sure you don’t have a UTI?

I'm pretty much the same OP, I eat a handful of pumpkin seeds on my porridge every morning and I'm 8 weeks in and I can see the difference. Nearly bought the Jude supplement but it was too expensive and it's the equivalent to 70 seeds which isn't much.

I don't drink caffeinated anything. I've really upped my pelvic floor exercises too which is helping. I can't hold on long though and I'm up at least once in the night. I envy my 80 year old mother who has a better bladder than I do 🙄
