So scared I have cervical cancer

Hi all, name change for this.

I am really struggling to cope at the moment, I went for a routine smear test last week, didn’t think I’d been experiencing anything unusual and the nurse said that my cervix looked abnormal. I looked up my notes online which said it was quite ‘vascular looking’. She wasn’t sure about it and spoke to the GP who called me the next day to book an appointment which is next week.

I have completely spiralled into a google hole and am so scared about what will happen next, I have attended all routine smear tests. I was positive for HPV four years ago but no cell changes, and then retested a year later and was negative for HPV.

I didn’t think I had any symptoms but since my appointment I did remember once I had the tiniest bit of pink on a tissue maybe a week before my period, this was a couple of months ago. Maybe also some increased ‘wetness’ but I thought that was more linked to my bladder control!

I have two young children and I’m struggling to be normal, it’s just the not knowing. I feel like I’m on the verge of a panic attack all the time 😭

There could be a number of conditions that could cause this. It could be due to something as harmless as hormone changes or it might be an infection causing the cervix to look inflamed which can be easily treated with antibiotics. I do understand how horrible it is not knowing.

Poor you it is always horrible having to wait for more checks. Try not to google and to keep your mind occupied as much as you can. Hope all turns out well.

This is reassuring, thank you.
