D dimer 38,000

Argh just wrote this post and lost it so will try to cover it all quickly!

any clinicians here?

Went to A&E a few weeks ago with possible symptoms of stroke. CT and head MRi clear although MRI report not yet available - sent home

follow up privately with neurologist as still have some symptoms. Neuro logged into access MRI report and while there spotted that my d dimer had been 38,000. This hadn’t been mentioned at all and isn’t on discharge summary so honestly not sure if my blood results didn’t get looked at

neuro has ordered repeat and hopefully I will get results soon and it will be back to normal either way do I need to worry? I know it often indicates clot but can be other things eg autoimmune or cancer. What else could it be? Could it actually just be a lab or admin error being so off the charts?

Not pregnant. Neuro said it can be higher in some people for unknown reasons but last year it was normal (reported as under 200ish). I get the impression from what I can see online that if a gp ordered test had come up that high I’d be called straight back in… altho it also seems the number itself doesn’t matter as much as it being over threshold?

definitely didnt mishear the number and it’s come through on my app now

thanks

bumping for the daytime crowd! Would welcome thoughts of HCPs or anyone who’s had a similarly high level / similar situation. Thanks!

Update on the off chance anyone picks this up - repeat d dimer has come back at 190 so well under the cutoff! Do I need to worry about previous reading or is it now irrelevant or do I dismiss it as a mistake?!

I had a d dimer test today, which came back as 22183. I'm really worried because they couldn't find DVT in my leg.

I've got an aching left leg and shooting pains from my thigh to my foot.

Did you get your MRI results?

Missed this! Just replied to your PM but for anyone else who comes across this and is wondering, it remains a mystery

I had bad calf pain and a raised d dimer years ago but scan found no clot. Stuff like muscle injury can raise the d dimer result.
