DD1 (2yrs) has come out in spots this weekend and its definitely chicken pox as her cousin had it last week. I've just realised I don't know anything about.... so can you help answer some of my questions

  1. Do I have to get it formally diagnosed by dr?
  2. How long does it last?
  3. dd2 is 3 months old and fully breastfed - is she technically in quarentine (sp?) - what are the chances of her catching it?
  4. dd2 is due her 2nd set of vaccinations on tuesday - can she still have them??

Any other advice or info would be appreciated! feel so ignorant

  3. slim as she will be immune if you are from postnatal immunity stuff.
  4. ask the nurse.

Agree wuth f-g-slipper, except...
dd was fully breastfed 3 month old who got cp.
I had my cp immunity verified by test in pregnancy.
It was very mild cp in dd but seems to have given her immunity in subsequent outbreaks -- cp swept thru her class at school & dd one of the very few who didnt get cp then.

How is DD1, mumclaire?

Sorry to be negative, but don't rely on BF immunity - my DS got severe CP when he was 7 weeks, despite me having confirmed immunity and exclusively BF. But if you are all in the same house, there isn't much you can do anyway.

Don't allow your DD to get vaccinations, even if nurse says it is OK - her immune system has enough to cope with - wait at least 4 weeks (although I am not a medic)

spots last 7-10 days.

My doc suggested Piriton for 2 yr old DD.
