Typically I have googled for images of this, being the hypochondriac that I am. How can you tell the difference between this and say a persistent teething rash?

My DD had Fifth Disease when she was about 4. She had the classic red face and a lacey red rash on her arms and legs when she was hot (she had it in the summer, and was outside most of the time). She wasn't unwell with it, but it seemed to last for weeks. None of the rest of the family had any symptoms, although presumably we were affected given that it is extremely contagious.

I think your knee problem is totally unrelated to the virus. You could go an see GP about that on it's own.
