Sore, itchy skin in intimate areas - what creams?

I've got sore/itchy skin around my genitalia as I've got bad haemorrhoids (on the third month now waiting for my referral to colorectal dept) and the creams (steroids, anusol, etc) have made my skin really sore and itchy, as have wipes, etc, to clean the area.

Does anyone have any advice on how to relieve the soreness? I tried sudocream, and aveeno baby moisturiser, but I'm not sure if they're the right approach and didn't want to make it worse. I've stopped using all the haemorrhoid creams from the GP as I can manage without them for now, but I don't know what to do about my sore skin.

I could ask my GP but it took three weeks to see them before when I was in agony, so I think I'd be waiting even longer this time. It's making it difficult to live a normal life!

Hey, came across your post as I was googling for the same reasons. I am really worried about it being anything sinister. I find that antihistamines can tale the edge off the itching, especially at night. Also a cooling pack can be soothing. Calamine lotion.

Hi @Ihavenoclu - sorry to hear you have the same problem. Calamine lotion is a good shout, I haven't tried that. I will also get in some anti-histamines. I am hoping it will clear up with a few weeks of no further medicated creams so if I could resist the itching then that would help, but I think I scratch it during my sleep!

Have you tried Vagisil? It contains lidocaine which is an anaesthetic. I find it good for relieving 'intimate' irritation.

I’ve not tried Vagisil but could give that a go. The cream I got from the gp was proctosedyl and that contains an anaesthetic but also has steroids. I’m not sure which elements have been irritating me but I have pretty sensitive skin at the best of times.

Vasaline. Brilliant stuff.

Okay I have a massive tub of that in the cupboard so that’s an easy test.
