Generally a bowl of prunes works for me

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 25/02/2025 12:44

Magnesium Citrate supplements.
I had tried EVERYTHING. I eat healthily and prioritise fibre. I exercise. I'm on HRT. I drank herbal teas for it. I even tried OTC laxatives which didn't always help.
And now the problem is completely fixed. I take 2 magnesium citrate tablets at bedtime (I am using the Strong Nutrients brand but there are plenty of others) and it works like magic. If I don't take them, I don't go. There's no doubt in my mind that they are the thing making the difference.

fresh papaya is a god send. You will need to get it from an Asian supermarket as high street supermarkets don’t stock it

Prune juice. Gross but it works. Also loads of water, and keeping active.

Really gets boring but two weetabix with lots of milk. If I miss a day I notice. If I go on holiday no matter how many other ways I try to get enough fibre I still notice a big difference. Also lots of water and lots of walking makes some difference if I have to miss a couple of days. I have tried so many things over the years but weetabix works regularly for me.

Chia seeds sprinkled in cereal, yoghurt etc works well

Hunkermedown · 25/02/2025 15:13

Kiwi fruit is good. On a daily basis I have ground flaxseed which makes a huge difference.

Ohwtfnow · 25/02/2025 16:06

Psyllium husk and a lot of water.

murphys · 25/02/2025 16:11

A mango usually works for me.

Also stewed fruit. I think these work faster than the dried fruit.

Latte coffee.

Kiwi fruit, syrup of figs, rhubarb and mango for me.

Grape juice

I have hormone related constipation. It used to be particularly bad at ovulation and now I'm perimenopausal and my cycle's erratic, it's most of the time.
I'm, on HRT, loads of water, exercise, lots of fruit and veg, extra fibre, sleep, low alcohol - all the right stuff you'd think.
I find prune juice every day helps, as do dried prunes or dates. Kiwi fruit too. If it very bad I take an OTC laxative but really don't enjoy the stomach pains they induce.
I take magnesium before bed and that really does seem to help.

Two whole kiwi fruit a day has been proven to improve constipation. You can blitz them into a smoothie if you don’t like the idea of the skin.

Two table spoons of chia seeds quickly knocked back in water (or in your kiwi smoothie) has been called an ‘internal shower’ because it’s so effective at clearing you out. You just have to drink it quickly after adding the chia to liquid before they start soaking up the liquid and turn gelatinous.

Dates are also very good.

If you have all 3 each day you need never have a problem again!

Floralnomad · 25/02/2025 16:26

Nothing , I’ve tried the lot .

Sportacus17 · 25/02/2025 16:29

Strong black coffee

Darkclothes · 25/02/2025 16:33

Its not just what you eat, but the way you sit on the loo can have an even bigger affect on ease of passing stool. A squatty potty is the thing, but anything to lift your feet up. Large, paint tins, bricks etc.
