Mood really low when fighting or down with a cold virus

My mood has been really low since the middle of last week when I started to feel as if I was developing a cold. I even had one day mostly in bed feeling mainly really lacking in energy and as if I couldn’t face the world. I’ve been really sweating at night time too. Quite snotty as well. My mood has been terrible today, very bleak and have spent this evening in tears over a relatively minor upset.

I am menopausal and take hrt which suits me really well. Always experienced low mood with pms but obviously I don’t have that any more. This current low mood has really thrown me. Can any of you wise MNetters relate to this or shed any light on the link between cold virus and low mood? TIA 🙏

Happens to me too - I think it’s quite common as the body is using lots of energy to fight infection

Thanks @thrive25 that explains why I want to stuff myself with junk food especially sweets which I usually never eat.

I read that fighting viruses can affect neurotransmitters which can lead to depressive symptoms as release of serotonin etc can be disrupted.
