Ok, you can tell us your negative ones too. But a vasectomy is not that bad really is it? Is it?

He's most worried about how long it will take him to recover afterwards and if he'll have to be off work a long time or if he won't be able to drive etc.

Would really appreciate your experiences..

TIA

DH was rushed to hospital within half an hour of getting home form having the snip. he had a blood clot and was so sore and swollen he was more or less on his back for 2 weeks. 16 mths later he is still under a urologist. DONT DO IT.
Sorry not what you want to hear but you only ever hear the stories where it all went well.

Bloody hell, if we all judged everything by the worst case scenario none of us would ever do anything.

The overwhelming majority of vasectomies are done quickly and the recovery time is a couple of days. Depending on his job, he may not need any time off other than the day itself. Can drive as soon as its comfortable to do so (although bike riding may take longer!

Good on him for volunteering, its a much simpler and less risky procedure than female sterilisation.

Dh husband had snip on a saturday morning, took half an hr in total. Sore (just aching) for about a week, but back to work Monday after snip (2 days later)

Had no problems since and that was 4 years ago!!!

GregorSamsa · 10/05/2008 14:23

Dh had his without any trouble. I was expecting a major bout of post-operative manflu, but it was fine. He took painkillers for a couple of days, and was vaguely sore for a bit longer, but that was it.

And tell your dh that all the nurses are really, really extra nice to blokes having vasectomies, for doing the Decent Thing. (This is true, btw).

Oh and -- if your dh usually wears boxers, make sure he has some supportive pants to hand for afterwards.

Thank you everyone! I was hoping the first comment wasn't going to be the only one!!

DH's went like a dream - the only issue was "sitting in a backless gown with some bloke cupping and cutting your nadgers" -

but I think that's his issue really.

Twas over and done in 1/2 an hour, and he was marching up and down the riverbank again two days later.

Offer him tea & sympathy, then play the "I bore your offspring with less fuss than this" card, if you're as dreadful as I am

Dh had snip on a Monday, went back to work T?ues (safer than staying home with 3 toddlers) and danced at a ceilidh on Friday. No prob at all. He said that after years of artficial hormones and two births, he felt it was his turn.

PuppyMonkey · 10/05/2008 16:48

Yes Chuffing, I was saving that one up!
