cough/cold/high temp

befuddeled brain so need reassurance please.

dd has had a high temp since Monday, full of cold and now a cough has developed. Is it usual for the high temp to continue once the cold is out? When I get colds, which thankfully is rare, I seem to have a temp for a day or so until it's out.

Stoopid question I know.

dd suffers with lots of high temps and convulsions to boot along with kidney reflux/uti's but my gut feeling its nothing more than a bad cold.

thanks

oh, and its always at the weekend that I start to get anxious (sp)

I would take her to the gp if I was worried as the temp has been high since monday. Other than that I would give calpol then 2 hours later give nurofen, keep her stripped off, lots of fluids and use olbas oil and vapour rub and cough medicine and lots of rest.

Just think by this time next week she will be a lot better

I'm not too worried, i'm used to her high temps. I just wonder if it should go this long if its just a cold.. Quite happy to be told others dd/ds have had cold with high temps for as long iykwm. thanks

I think if she has developed a cough and still has a fever she should be checked to see if she has a chest infection. If she has had a fever since Monday this is the 6th day-longer than is usual for just a cold. Sorry-not what you wanted to hear!

Definitely take her to drs to rule out infections - if her snot is really green it could be a chest infection or throat or ear - or another uti.

Thanks, will call nhs direct or out of hours. Nose is fairly clear tbh.

thanks

for anyone interested, it's not a uti hoorah. cold/cough and abit of a gunky ear which I have to keep an eye on. temp is ok to be a bit high to fight it off
