To go to A&E based off peak flow alone

I have asthma.

I don't feel that bad but my peak flow is very low. It is usually 430 and is currently 220.

Would I be unreasonable to go to A&E even though I am not gasping for air?

Have you rang 111 to see what they advise in case they can offer you an alternative?

EducatingArti · 20/02/2025 20:47

Not at all unreasonable. You will probably need some steroids if your peak flow is practically halved.

GotoAandE · 20/02/2025 20:47

I would.

Don't mess with asthma.

MissRabbitHasBurnOut · 20/02/2025 20:48

Do you have an asthma plan?
I have one that tells me if my peak flow drops below x or if this happens to go to A & E. If you don't it might be useful to chat through with your doctor in case this happens again.

If I were you I would at least call 111, but I don't think you would be unreasonable to go to A & E either, always better to get checked out.

Hope all is OK Flowers

I have moderately severe asthma. Surprised you're not on the floor with that peak flow! I've felt horrendous with a peak flow of 320 before and my ideal score is 430.

If its in your asthma action plan to go to hospital, I would go regardless. If not, ring 111. They'd probably advise you to go anyway though. Things can escalate quite fast.
