Cyst/Ingrown Hair - Help!

NameChangedForThis1985 · 19/02/2025 11:03

I have what I think is either a cyst or ingrown hair in my bikini line - kind of next to my vaginal opening (that sounds horrible but can't think of a better description as in it's not in my actual groin area). It's really difficult to try and see it but just looks like a white spot on the surface. It's about the size of a small grape - I can literally get hold of it between thumb and finger - but most of it seems deep under the skin. I have tried squeezing but absolutely nothing is happening. It really bloody hurts when I sit down!

So two things...

  1. How do I get rid of it? Epsom salts paste was suggested but I only have the salts for the bath which I've been using - can I maybe mix these with water and apply?

  2. I'm going on holiday next week and have a bikini wax booked on Tuesday evening - will they refuse to do the procedure if it's still there? I really don't want a patch left over!

Thanks.

Post in sporners corner, they will know what it is and how to treat. Mag sulphate cream/paste from the pharmacy will help, I think.

You are definitely welcome over at the Sporners corner!

Sorry to hear about your cyst, OP. I believe magnesium paste is tricky/not possible to buy at the moment, whether it’s due to them no longer making it or issues with stock.

Try to avoid squeezing it, as tempting as it is. You risk causing more harm than good, and spreading the bacteria inwards. I recommend trying a warm bath (as warm as you can manage), which should help bring it to a head, and it should clear naturally. I have used heat packs wrapped on cyst before now (with clothing or a towel in between).

Someone else may be able to recommend something to put on it to help. Hope it clears very soon.

Re: your waxing, you shouldn’t have a waxing in the area of the cyst, as it risks irritating it more, and also adding more bacteria to the area.

I've had the same for three months now. It's no bigger or smaller, it's just there.

I had one of these in my armpit (ow). I put a hot compress on it a few times a day, and a wodge of Savlon after cleaning. It seem to heal fast that way. Don't squeeze. If it is a boil, it is a bacterial infection (Staphylococcus aureus) of the sebaceous gland, and you don't want that to spread.

Castor oil!

mommyfinger · 19/02/2025 15:26

If it's that big I wouldn't be squeezing it. Go to the gp you may need antibiotics to help it come down

TeaRoseTallulah · 19/02/2025 15:29

As many warm baths as you can manage with Savlon afterwards as a pp suggested. Hot compresses too- folded kitchen paper with hot as you can stand salt water. Give it a couple of days and if it doesn't improve then see the GP in case you need antibiotics.

It's most definitely on the outside not inside
