insect bite

Something bit me a couple of days ago just above my elbow and it is slightly swollen and sore and it's really irritating me. I'm 21 weeks pregnant so I don't want to take anything. NHS direct said go to the gp etc (but they have to say that don't they!) but fat chance on Friday night and I can't face queueing at the hospital.

Surely it's common to be sore and a bit swollen after a sting of some kind? Obviously if I get feverish I'll seek immediate medical attention!

I always seem to swell up horribly with bites - I use one of those ammonia insect relief sticks as quickly as possible and that seems to help. You can also get it in a cream form. Or try aqueos (sp?) calamine cream (better than the lotion). Can't take anti-histamines as like you I'm pregnant (20 weeks). Maybe its a horsefly bite? (they tend to be bigger and swell up lots).

Thanks so much paddycat, I tried calamine last night and need to put some more on, I also have the anti hist cream I'll put some more on too.
It's the soreness that's irritating me, for some reason have a low pain threshold today....
